Urban Sketching in Cologne: Rediscovering Everyday Life with Pen and Color
On Friday, November 6, 2026, the Cologne City Library invites you to a free Urban Sketching workshop in the interim space of the Central Library. From 2 PM to 5 PM, this creative offer is aimed at adolescents aged 16 and older and adults who want to gain initial experience or hone their observational skills through drawing.
Getting to Know Materials and Creating First Sketches
The focus is on the basics of Urban Sketching: paper, pens, and watercolor paints. Participants will learn about various tools and techniques and try their hand at creating their own first sketches using reference photos. It's not about the perfect drawing but about capturing personal perspectives on buildings, street scenes, and special moments.
Creative Atmosphere Without Pressure
The workshop combines focused work with an open event atmosphere. Step by step, first drawings will emerge as the group observes, experiments, and develops their own style. The event is explicitly suitable for interested individuals and beginners.
Workshop in the Makerspace of the Central Library
The event will take place in the training room on the third floor of the interim space of the Central Library. All necessary materials will be provided on-site. If the weather permits, there will also be a brief drawing session outside as part of the event experience, so weather-appropriate clothing is recommended.
Important Information for Participation
Participation is free, but registration via the booking system of the City Library is required. The Urban Sketching dates can be attended independently of one another, even though they build on each other thematically.
Conclusion
Urban Sketching in Cologne offers an uncomplicated introduction to on-site drawing. Visitors can expect an inspiring Makerspace workshop with practical exercises, creative materials, and space for personal expression. If you want to see Cologne from a different perspective and bring it directly to paper, you will experience a focused and varied afternoon here.
