Better dry than wet: Flood preparedness explained clearly
Heavy rainfall, sewer backflow, and flooding can become a threat in just a few minutes – even far from large rivers. In the MINTköln lecture Better dry than wet, Reinhard Riku Vogt shows on Thursday, October 29, 2026, how people in Cologne and beyond can better prepare for floods.
Concrete tips for greater safety
The focus is on accurately assessing one's own flood risk and sensible protective measures for home, apartment, and property. The lecture looks at various sources of danger: heavy rainfall, sewer backflow, river flooding, and groundwater flooding.
Experience from flood preparedness
Reinhard Riku Vogt brings years of expertise from practical flood prevention work. He led the Cologne Flood Protection Center for 20 years, was involved in founding the Rhine Flood Emergency Community and the Flood Competence Center, and continues to advise municipalities on preparedness and protection concepts.
