Programming, tinkering and marveling: NAO becomes your own robot project
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the interim space of the Central Library Cologne will transform into a workshop for robotics and creative technology. In the Makerspace workshop New Tricks for NAO, participants will develop their own programs for the humanoid robot NAO and experience how code becomes visible movement.
When code turns into movement
The focus is on the humanoid robot NAO. With the Choregraphe software, pre-made and customizable code blocks can be combined, allowing for the creation of individual workflows. If the available blocks are not enough, Python opens up additional possibilities for individual programming ideas.
Technology to try out
The workshop combines an understandable introduction, practical work on the PC, and immediate experimentation. The self-developed programs are tested directly on the robot. This way, programming is not abstract but experienced as a visible event with movement, reaction, and moments of surprise.
Makerspace atmosphere in the Central Library
The event is part of the Makerspace program of the City Library of Cologne. The focus is on hands-on learning, digital education, and easy access to new technologies. The organization is aimed at curious people who want to practically learn about robotics, coding, and creative problem-solving.
For children, teenagers, and adults
The format particularly appeals to young technology fans, families, and adults interested in robotics. Prior knowledge is not the main focus: What matters is curiosity, joy in tinkering, and the willingness to translate one's own ideas into a small robot program.
Conclusion: Experience NAO live
Those who want to not just watch robotics but actively engage will find New Tricks for NAO a vivid introduction to programming and digital creativity. The free workshop makes technical connections tangible and shows how an idea turns into a moving robotic procedure. Participation is only possible with prior registration through the booking system.
