Woman on the Moon: Space Travel Up Close at MINTköln 2026

On October 22, 2026, MINTköln 2026 will take place at the Interim Central Library Cologne, directly into the fascinating world of space travel. At Woman on the Moon, aerospace engineer Maria Hallinger shares her work, her path into space travel, and the questions that future missions to the Moon will confront.

From Rhineland towards the Moon

How does one actually become an aerospace engineer? Maria Hallinger provides personal insights into her professional journey and shows how scientific curiosity evolves into concrete research and technical development. The event combines an inspiring life story with solid knowledge about space travel, lunar research, and modern engineering work.

Lunar Dust, Rovers, and Reduced Gravity

The focus is on the conditions on the Moon and the technical challenges of future missions. The Lunar Center LUNA of the German Aerospace Center and the European Space Agency offers a realistic research environment with simulations of solar radiation, lunar dust, reduced gravity, and craters. Rovers, astronaut suits, and living modules will also be tested in this context.

Science in the Heart of Cologne

The event demonstrates how closely research, technology, and societal future questions are intertwined. Visitors will learn what is examined during mission tests, what open questions lunar research raises, and what working on the Moon can teach us about Earth.

Part of MINTköln 2026

Woman on the Moon is part of the MINT festival at the Cologne City Library. The ninth edition is themed Everything in Motion and brings together mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology in various formats. The event is aimed at everyone interested in space travel, research, and the future of technical professions.
